Episode 27 - Musicals and All That Jazz
A five…six...seven…eight! Hit the lights. Cue the jazz hands. Bring on the tap dancin’ shoes and your Sunday’s best. Save for the tears, the melodrama and the extravagance; They can’t hold a note to save their lives, but Rod and Raf will their own showstopping Dreamed a Dream / Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina. Joined by film fan and Youtuber, Sophia Phan, the trio embark on their own musical adventure through the soundscapes and the world of the Movie Musical. There’s something in the way these characters bring their worlds to life, in every single breath; the way the weave in and out of song, their inner monologues spilled on the screen for all the FEELS; their hopes, their dreams, their heartbreak and their longing. It’s the way their bodies move with every single slip, slide, dance, fight or choreography that invites us into a world, far more different than the films today. There must be more from the Disney Musicals, right? Rami Malek won an Oscar for one, right? (RIGHT?!) From the legendary Sound of Music and Grease 2 (yes, “2”) to the jukebox tunes of Moulin Rouge & Rocketman; These songs are here to save your life, and we can’t held but stan. Get ready to sing the blues and more in this week’s Layered Butter!
