Our latest Tiny Poster takes us back to the thrilling world of The Mummy (1999) — Stephen Sommers’ action-adventure classic that reignited the spirit of old-school Hollywood spectacle. With its mix of daring escapades, sweeping romance, and larger-than-life set pieces, it’s a film that feels like it could have unspooled in the golden age of cinema. And for that reason, we couldn’t think of a better fit for artist Jason Kincaid.
Jason works entirely in traditional media, combining acrylics and colored pencils on toned gessoed board to capture the warmth and grit of his subjects. For The Mummy, he embraced an Egyptian desert palette and turned to a key inspiration: the legendary Richard Amsel poster for Raiders of the Lost Ark.
“My goal for this Mummy art was to capture the feeling of those old action-adventure posters, most especially Amsel’s iconic Raiders design,” Jason told us. “Working traditionally felt essential to evoke that timeless mood. When I first saw The Mummy in cinemas, it stirred a wave of nostalgia I didn’t think I’d feel again — the action, the cast, the sets, the music were all just so on point. Creating art for this film has been on my list for a long time, and I’m so glad I finally had the chance to do it.”
The result is a piece brimming with pulp energy and vintage flair – a love letter to both the film and the era of artistry it echoes. Every line, shadow, and color choice works together to bring back that feeling of stepping into a cinema where adventure and wonder awaited on the big screen.
