Tiny Poster Spotlight: Sinners by Lydia Maltby
Hamilton by Heather Monahan. Digital. (2025)
“No doubt about it. Last time I seen my brother. Last time I seen the sun. And just for a few hours, we was free.”
Our latest Tiny Poster turns its gaze toward Sinners - Ryan Coogler’s bold, genre-bending vision that fuses music, myth, and the supernatural into something wholly unforgettable. It’s a story of talent and torment, where art becomes both salvation and damnation — and artist Lydia Maltby captures that spirit perfectly in her latest work.
Rendered in a vivid red palette, Lydia’s piece pulses with the same heat and rhythm that define the film. The poster centers on Sammie, guitar still clutched tight, surrounded by the fiery faces of the Smokestack Twins. Every stroke and shadow feels alive - flames, negative space, and composition working together to echo the shape of a guitar, as if the music itself is burning through the image.
“With my Sinners poster I wanted to try and make something as striking as the film itself,” Lydia shared. “I listened to the soundtrack a lot while working on it as the music is such a big part of the film and I wanted to reflect that in my poster, with Sammie still clinging on to his guitar and with the composition, using negative space, flames, and the faces of the Smokestack Twins to create a subtle guitar shape. Red felt like a natural choice of colour to match the glowing eyes of the vampires, fire, and blood.”
The result is a piece that radiates in so much intensity. Lydia’s ability to translate sound into image makes this Sinners poster not just a companion to the film, but a continuation of its power.
