“The Shining” by Dalton Frizzell Poster Release
The Shining" by Dalton Frizzell (Regular)
This Halloween, we’re excited to launch a limited edition screenprint of “The Shining” by @frizzellustrations. In The Shining, the scene where Jack Torrance attempts to enter Room 237 stands as one of the film's most iconic and chilling moments. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, this sequence marks a critical point in Jack's spiral into madness, fueled by the sinister influences of the Overlook Hotel.
Dalton Frizzell’s subversive take on this scene creatively reimagines the feeling of Jack being trapped. The labyrinth becomes a powerful symbol of Jack's psychological entrapment and the inescapable nature of his descent. Dalton took heavy inspiration from Saul Bass' iconic poster for The Shining, featuring a minimalist and striking design and we’re excited to offer this nightmarish vision to Kubrick fans!

About the Artist:
Dalton Frizzell
Renowned for his refreshing intricate compositions, Dalton has a unique talent for reimagining cinematic classics. His take on “The Shining” captures the eerie, unsettling atmosphere of the film, creating a visual homage to Saul Bass that fans will treasure.
“For this poster, I wanted to pay tribute to Saul Bass’ iconic work for Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. In 1978, Bass submitted several designs to Kubrick, utilizing a stippling technique with a bold yet minimalist typeface—one of these eventually became the film’s official poster. Inspired by these designs, I wanted to capture one of my favorite shots of the film, where Wendy Torrance locks Jack Torrance in the pantry and he’s seen talking to her through the door from an extremely low angle. Surrounding Jack on the walls and ceiling is the layout of the maze at the Overlook Hotel, emphasizing the feeling that he’s been mentally and physically trapped in the labyrinth of the supernatural.” - Dalton Frizzell
