The Guilty
While the premise sounds intriguing, the Guilty ends up being relegated to a frustrating watch considering all the leaps in logic this film takes.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) the Guilty is tightly shot taking place over the course of a single night shift in the 911 call center. Fuqua tries his best to create intensity through some pretty remarkable A-list voice acting but ultimately where the film suffers is in its plot.
No trained professional would ever double down and act in the manner first responder Joe Baylor does -played by an unhinged Jake Gyllenhaal. While the premise is interesting, nothing about this film is believable and as talented as the cast is, the film ultimately suffers from its banal story and comes off as a melodramatic episode of CSI: Miami. Cellular (2004) understood the assignment - The Guilty did not.
